EMSONI was on a courtesy visit to the Office of the Lord Mayor of Belfast on the 11th of April 2019 at the Belfast City Hall where we had the opportunity to discuss our future projects with the Lord Mayor and to seek the support of the Council.

The Lord Mayor of Belfast – The Rt. Hon. Deirdre Hargey also used our visit to help us unveil our new project tagged NORTHERN IRELAND CONFEDERATION CUP (NICC). A project designed to help migrants to integrate within ethnic minority community and with local communities via an 11 aside football tournament. It is an inter-community social development initiative with a lasting legacy of providing platform for an inclusive participation in a relaxed and safe environment. It is to bring nations within Northern Ireland together through football to promote diversity, good relations, and activeness

The Lord Mayor Deirdre Hargey responded by thanking EMSONI for using sports to help in building the society here in Belfast and surprisingly announced that the Office of the Lord Mayor is happy to recognise the work of EMSONI with a Lord Mayor’s Certificate of Unsung Hero for promoting diversity in sports in the City. We, at EMSONI, are pleased to receive this award and graciously grateful to the Lord Mayor of Belfast for recognising our work.
